Cherry sized fruit with
crispy flesh surrounding a pea sized seed. The
pink, red and sometimes purple fruits are
particularly pretty when ripening. and sometimes as shrub or bush. In some parts of the world, brush cherries are used as hedges.
Produces very pretty, showy
flowers during Spring and Summer, followed by
fruit ripening 2-3 months later. Will grow in
both sun and part shade.

Similar to the brush cherry
in appearance. Flowering is generally in Spring, and is followed by large bunches of the fruit which ripen a couple of months later.

of birds. Protection should be given from long or hard freezes.
The passion flowers or passion vines (Passiflora) are a genus of about 500 species of flowering plants, the namesakes of the family Passifloraceae.

some being shrubs, and a few species being
herbaceous.
depending upon the species
or cultivar. A small purple fruit which wrinkles easily and a larger shiny yellow to orange fruit are traded under this name.

considered just a variety flavicarpa, but seems
to be more distinct in fact.

The fruit are often eaten by bears, which by legend, prefer the berries to maintain fat stores during hibernation. Buffaloberries are used as food plants by the larvae of some Lepidoptera species including
The Engrailed (recorded
from S. canadensis) and Coleophora elaeagnisella. A touch of frost will sweeten the berries. The berries can be made into jelly, jam, or syrup, or prepared like cranberry sauce from the forefrost berries. The berry is recognizable by being a dark shade of red, with little white dots on them. They are rough to the touch, and found on both trees and shrubs.
Butterfly weed (Asclepias tuberosa) is easy to grow from seed. For the quickest flowers, start seed in late August. Fresh seed requires a period of cool, damp stratification. Provide this by placing the seed in a bag of moist peat moss and keeping it in the refrigerator for ten to twelve weeks. Older seed will not require this cold period to break its dormancy. Direct seed butterfly weed outside, or grow the seedlings in a nursery bed until the plants have five or six leaves, at which time it should be moved to its permanent location. Give the seed proper attention while it is germinating; though the mature plants will tolerate somewhat dry soils, the seedlings need to be kept moist until established.
Fall-grown plants will
provide moderate bloom the following year, with
improved bloom in successive seasons. Bullock's heart Fortunate
The custard-apple is the fruit of the tree Annona reticulata. This tree is a small deciduous or semi-evergreen tree. The fruits are variable in shape, heart shaped, oblong or irregular. The size ranges from 7 centimetres to 12 centimetres. The skin or covering of custard apple is thin but tough, which is usually yellow or brownish when ripe. Beneath the thin covering, a thick, cream-white layer of custard like, granular, flesh is present, which surrounds seeds. The flavor of the fruit is sweet and agreeable. When ripe, the fruit is brown or yellowish, with red highlights and a varying degree of reticulation,
depending on variety. The
flavor is sweet and pleasant. The fruits are
tasty and nutritious but all parts of this tree
can be usefu
